Custom Type & Lettering
I create custom type and lettering for editorial, apparel, greeting cards, branding, custom fonts, and more. The work shown here is just the beginning — I work in many styles and decorative effects, and primarily in vector. Reach out if you would like to chat about your custom type or font project.
Barstow Type Family
Barstow is my revival of the 1854 Wells & Webb reverse-contrast woodtype sensation, Gothic Tuscan Italian. The original 48 characters were designed by Darius Wells. Barstow expands Wells’ work into a type family with three styles and over a thousand letterforms:
Regular, modeled after the original;
Shadow, an outline font with a slight 3D shadow (or as the Victorians would say, a ‘modulated outline’);
Xtra, a dingbat font with all the gems and icons a designer could want including hearts, stars, rainbows, funky arrows and hands.
Features include robust Latin language support, symbols and decorative icons, as well as thoughtful OpenType features like substitution and alternates that make designing a breeze.
Barstow is great for short emphatic bursts of text in branding, headlines, deep thoughts and eye-catching quotes at 36pts and larger.
